I am a Guyanese-American interdisciplinary artist, currently working in video and performance. My fictional television network, Self-Help TV, is an ongoing video-performance project, using my own body and personal history as a point of departure. Self-Help TV employs a range of televisual formats, including comedy, drama and reality to examine issues of self-improvement.

Mainstream self-help tends to ignore how factors such as race, class and gender might affect one’s overall well-being. However, as a woman of color who is addicted to self-help and television, it is important to use both to give visibility to people who are rarely represented. I also intend for my work to be universal, to subtly engage viewers in the space where we all feel alienated, out-of-place or unsure.
